SATs are done. Secondary school is coming…

Year 6 pupils are about to face one of the biggest transitions in their school life: new routines, new expectations, new challenges and new friendship groups.

Our Life Skills Day does two things. It prepares them for what’s ahead and it helps them build connections before they arrive. We bring together Year 6 pupils from across different primary schools, so when they walk into secondary school they already recognise some friendly faces.

After running sessions with hundreds of children, I've learned that honest, responsible conversations are the best way to prepare them for what's coming. Phones, group chats, social media, AI, friendship groups, money, confidence and anxiety can feel like a lot to navigate all at once. After SATs, when the academic pressure lifts and there’s space to focus on what really matters for the next chapter, it’s the perfect moment to have these conversations.

We work with experienced speakers and facilitators to run practical, engaging sessions that explore the real challenges pupils will face. Not just what to expect, but how to handle it. How to make new friends when you don’t know anyone. How to navigate group chats and social pressure. How to stay organised and independent. What to do when things feel overwhelming. And how to speak up when you need help.

The move to secondary school is a critical moment. When the transition is handled well, pupils settle, grow in confidence and thrive. When it isn’t, some children can quickly lose confidence. This day is designed to strengthen that transition and help pupils arrive in September feeling more resilient, prepared and ready for what comes next.

They’ll feel ready. Not anxious. Just prepared.

In a world 🌍 moving to screens, we're bringing Year 6s together face-to-face to learn the skills that matter most - how to connect, communicate, and be kind humans.

3 key themes

Confidence

Finding your voice in a new environment

Starting secondary school often means speaking up more, meeting new people and expressing ideas in unfamiliar settings. This session focuses on building the confidence to communicate clearly, ask questions and contribute without fear of getting things wrong.

Resilience

Learning how to handle challenges and setbacks

The move to secondary school brings new expectations and pressures. Through real stories and practical examples, pupils explore how resilience is built through effort, persistence and learning from mistakes, helping them face challenges rather than avoid them.

Relationships

Understanding friendships, group chats and making good choices

Starting secondary school often means new friendship groups, new social dynamics and the influence of group chats and online conversations. This session helps pupils think about how to build positive relationships, manage social pressure and make thoughtful decisions in both the real world and online.
